Introduction

For years, choosing a hardware wallet meant making compromises.

If you wanted the highest level of security, you often had to pay a premium and carry around a dedicated hardware device. If you wanted something affordable and mobile-friendly, you usually had to accept trade-offs in how your private keys were protected.

Cypherock X0 changes that.

Built on the same security philosophy that powered the Cypherock X1, X0 brings enterprise-grade self-custody to a completely mobile-first experience. After the successful launch of X1 in 2022 and its independent security audit by Keylabs and Wallet Scrutiny, Cypherock set out to answer a simple question:

Can we build the world's most affordable hardware wallet without compromising security?

The answer is X0.

Designed to be the cheapest secure hardware wallet available today, X0 combines advanced cryptography, card-side computation, and distributed key protection into a product that is accessible to everyone, from first-time crypto users to experienced self-custody enthusiasts.

Let's explore the features that make Cypherock X0 different.

1. The Most Affordable, Secure Hardware Wallet

For many users, hardware wallets remain out of reach simply because of cost.

Cypherock X0 was created to remove that barrier.

Rather than stripping away security features to reduce price, X0 reimagines the architecture itself. By replacing the dedicated vault device with your smartphone, while keeping all sensitive cryptographic operations inside certified secure hardware, X0 delivers enterprise-grade protection at an entry-level price.

The goal is simple:

Make secure self-custody accessible to millions of crypto users worldwide.

Whether you're buying your first hardware wallet or upgrading from a software wallet, X0 is designed to offer one of the lowest entry prices in the market without sacrificing the security principles that define Cypherock.

2. Mobile-First by Design

Today's crypto users live on their smartphones.

Yet many hardware wallets still depend on desktops, USB cables, or companion devices.

Cypherock X0 was designed differently.

With the cySync Mobile app available for both iOS and Android, users can:

  • Swap crypto

  • Buy and sell Crypto

  • Stake and earn yield

  • View and manage portfolio

Everything happens from your phone.

No desktop required.

No USB connection required.

Just tap your card and go.

3. Four NFC Smart Cards

Instead of relying on a single hardware wallet, X0 distributes security across four NFC smart cards.

Each card contains:

  • EAL6+ certified Secure Element

  • Encrypted shard storage

  • Transaction signing capability

  • PIN protection

  • Mutual authentication

  • NFC connectivity

Unlike ordinary backup cards, every X0 card is an active cryptographic device capable of securely participating in wallet operations.

4. Card-Side Computation

This is the defining innovation behind X0.

Traditional mobile wallets often rely on the smartphone to reconstruct private keys or perform transaction signing.

X0 does neither.

Every security-sensitive operation happens entirely inside the Secure Element embedded in the card.

That includes:

  • Wallet reconstruction

  • Key derivation

  • Transaction signing

  • Secure memory wiping

Your smartphone never performs any of these operations.

Instead, it simply acts as the interface between you and the card.

5. Shamir Secret Sharing (2-of-5)

At the core of X0 lies the same distributed security architecture introduced with Cypherock X1.

Instead of storing one complete private key, X0 divides your wallet into five cryptographic shards.

Those shards are distributed as follows:

  • Card 1

  • Card 2

  • Card 3

  • Card 4

  • Your smartphone (holds one encrypted shard for security purposes)

This architecture provides several important advantages:

  • No single point of failure

  • One shard reveals nothing

  • Daily transactions require only your phone and any one card

  • Recovery is possible using any two cards, or one card and your phone

  • Your wallet is never dependent on one device alone

6. Your Phone Never Holds the Private Key

Many mobile wallets depend on the phone to generate, reconstruct, or sign with private keys.

Cypherock X0 intentionally avoids this.

The smartphone is responsible for only three things:

  • Portfolio management

  • Secure storage of one encrypted shard

  • Communication with the card

It never:

  • Reconstructs your wallet

  • Derives private keys

  • Signs transactions

Even during a transaction, the phone simply relays encrypted information between hardware components.

7. EAL6+ Certified Secure Element

Every X0 card contains an EAL6+ certified Secure Element, the same class of security hardware trusted in banking and government-grade applications.

Inside this chip, X0 performs:

  • Wallet generation

  • Shard storage

  • Key reconstruction

  • Private key derivation

  • Transaction signing

  • Secure key deletion

Sensitive cryptographic material never leaves the Secure Element during these operations.

8. Automatic Key Wiping After Every Transaction

Security doesn't stop after signing.

Once a transaction is completed, X0 immediately erases:

  • The reconstructed wallet

  • Derived private keys

  • Temporary phone shard

Only the permanent encrypted shard stored inside the card remains.

This significantly minimizes the exposure of sensitive data in memory.

9. Biometric Security

The phone's encrypted shard is protected using hardware-backed security available on modern smartphones.

Depending on your device, this includes:

  • Face ID

  • Touch ID

  • Fingerprint authentication

  • Secure Enclave

  • Android TEE

  • StrongBox

Before any transaction begins, biometric authentication is required to release the encrypted shard for secure communication with the card.

10. PIN-Protected Cards

Each X0 card supports its own PIN.

To defend against brute-force attacks, Cypherock also implements CyLock, progressively increasing protection after repeated incorrect PIN attempts.

Even physical possession of a card does not automatically grant access.

11. Encrypted NFC Communication

Every interaction between the phone and the card takes place over an encrypted NFC session.

Each session includes:

  • Mutual authentication

  • Secure key exchange

  • Encrypted communication

  • Signed transaction return

The phone sends the encrypted shard and the unsigned transaction hash.

The card returns only the signature.

Private keys are never transmitted over NFC.

12. Recovery Without Exposing a Seed Phrase

One of the biggest pain points in self-custody has always been managing recovery phrases.

X0's distributed recovery eliminates the need to ever expose a seed phrase.

If you lose your phone:

  1. Install cySync on a new device

  2. Tap any two X0 cards

  3. Securely reconstruct your wallet

  4. Generate a fresh phone shard

  5. Update your cards with new shards

Your recovery process never requires exposing a seed phrase.

13. Multi-Chain Support

Cypherock X0 Founder's Edition supports 15 blockchain networks, with approximately 22,900+ coins and tokens currently supported across the ecosystem (22,918 tokens in the current catalog).

Included networks (15):

  • Bitcoin-family (4): Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash

  • EVM networks (9): Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Fantom Opera, Avalanche C-Chain, Optimism, Arbitrum One, Hyperliquid, and Base, with ERC-20 token support on each network

  • Tron: 87 TRC-20 tokens

  • XRP Ledger

Ethereum alone currently supports 9,324 tokens and Cypherock X0 supports all of them.

Excluded networks (7) in X0 Founder's or Lite edition: Solana, NEAR, Starknet, Internet Computer (ICP), Stellar, Sia, and Canton. These networks will be integrated in the X0 standard version launching soon.

These networks are currently excluded in Founder's Edition because they use Ed25519 or other cryptographic curves, while the X0 Card currently derives secp256k1 keys.

More networks are planned to be added in the future, expanding X0's blockchain and token coverage over time.

14. Built to Defend Against Real-World Attacks

Security isn't measured only by encryption. It's measured by resilience against real-world threats.

X0's architecture is designed to protect against scenarios including:

  • Stolen phones

  • Lost cards

  • Phone malware

  • Fake wallet apps

  • NFC interception

  • Supply-chain attacks

  • Backend server breaches

Because no single component holds your complete wallet, compromising one device is not enough to compromise your assets.

15. Simple Enough for Everyone

Despite the sophisticated cryptography running behind the scenes, the user experience remains refreshingly simple.

The everyday workflow is straightforward:

  1. Open the app.

  2. Enter transaction details.

  3. Tap any X0 card.

  4. Done.

The complexity stays inside the hardware, not in the hands of the user.

Affordable Self-Custody Without Compromise

Cypherock X0 represents the next step in the evolution of hardware wallets. It takes the distributed security model introduced with the Keylabs and Wallet Scrutiny-audited Cypherock X1, reimagines it for a mobile-first world, and packages it into what is designed to be the most affordable secure hardware wallet on the market.

Rather than asking users to choose between price and protection, X0 delivers both. Four NFC smart cards, Shamir Secret Sharing, card-side computation, EAL6+ Secure Elements, and a seamless mobile experience come together in a wallet built for everyday use, without ever asking your smartphone to become the trusted device.

For anyone looking to take control of their crypto without compromising on security, Cypherock X0 makes hardware-backed self-custody more accessible than ever.
